Professional Experience

Before starting Hendricks Legal Research, Stephanie Hendricks, the main researcher, went to Willamette University College of Law, where she was an Articles Editor for the Willamette Law Review, received honors in Legal Research and Writing, and was a legal research and writing teaching assistant.  She graduated in 2002.

During her second year of law school, she clerked for the Appellate Division of the Oregon Department of Justice where, on behalf of the State of Oregon, she drafted responses to several criminal appeals, and drafted several memoranda that helped with the preparation of other civil and criminal appeals.

For the duration of her third year of law school, she worked as a judicial extern at the Oregon Supreme Court for the present Chief Justice.  During that time, she drafted a judicial opinion that was published and did substantial work on other opinions that were in progress.

After that, she was a fellow with a top-tier non-profit based in New York City for one yearWhile there, Stephanie drafted motions, prepared research memoranda, and assisted with the preparation of trial, post-trial, and appellate briefs for various federal and state cases.

From there, Stephanie returned to the Oregon Supreme Court in the summer of 2003, where she clerked for the present Chief Justice for two more years.  During that time, she drafted several judicial opinions and prepared several legal memoranda analyzing whether the Court should accept or deny petitions for review.

After her clerkship ended in the summer of 2005, Stephanie became an associate with one of the largest firms in the Pacific Northwest and concentrated her practice on complex civil and commercial litigation.  She was a member of firm’s appellate, securities litigation, white collar criminal defense, products liability, and general commercial litigation groups and became the first associate at her level to get the opportunity to first-chair a trial.  She also handled arbitrations and administrative hearings; prepared trial documents and trial motions (including motions in limine, trial memoranda, jury instructions, and verdict forms); prepared witnesses, including experts, for trial; prepared and responded to discovery requests; trained in taking depositions at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, after which she took and defended several depositions; and researched, prepared, and argued several different types of motions (including summary judgment).

Although Stephanie really enjoyed her civil litigation practice, she resigned from the firm to move back to the East Coast to be closer to her family.
